Sustainable Development - The Renewable Way

A guide to action for groups, organisations, businesses & communities

Any group, organisation, business or individual concerned about the growing evidence for the effects resource depletion (such as climate change, which is the one most in the news at the moment) should be considering how to implement sustainable development because it is widely recognised that local initiatives will have a leading role in discovering how sustainability can be achieved. The major issues and potential solutions are considered in a presentation called ‘Sustainable Development – Not Business as Usual, which is offered as an introduction to those devising plans.

Ÿ         The first step is to plan a strategy that will deliver effective action.

o       Community Council of Staffordshire has produced a practical outline that groups and parishes can use

o       Swynnerton Parish Council has used this model for a strategy incorporated within the Parish Plan

Ÿ         The key areas to address are:

o       how energy is used and obtained

o       how waste is produced and managed

o       how potential projects are evaluated

Ÿ         Finally, please do not forget that all action is planned for people to undertake and may require a wider vision.
