Post Card from Poland - Living sustainably

News of a practical experiment in living more sustainably

About our place: We recycled an old polish farmers house - disassembled all parts from the building, loaded everything on a big truck and then put everything back together on our piece of bare land.  It took us four years to complete the building.  We moved in one and a half years ago.  We have small scale solar electricity and a small wind-generator, which is enough for most of the time, REEOBEO water cleaning, solar warm water and compost toilet.  A guest cabin is planned and a pond for fish and the occasional swim!  We started gardening last year.  We heat with fire wood and want to cool with winter ice refrigeration in the future.

Since we try to use as little energy as possible - for fuels, living space and time to make money - we will not have a computer and all the necessary connections (telephone lines) soon.  We like to have contact with likeminded people and to exchange information on sustainable living, such as: effective use of renewable energy (12 volt washing machines), winter ice refrigeration (with 12 volt back-up), organic/biodynamic fruit and vegetable growing (excluding the use of animals!), sustainable architecture (using local materials and matching building outlines with natural features). We can recycle books, magazines and manuals on solar technology, wind power, straw/reed bale building techniques, tofu making and winter ice refrigeration.
